Safari Highlights

Day-by-Day Itinerary

1

Nairobi to Marsabit (The Gateway to the North)

Your 7-Day Northern Kenya Cultural Photography Expedition starts at dawn as your private 4x4 Land Cruiser heads north from Nairobi. Watch the landscape shift from lush highlands into semi-arid plains before ascending the basalt shield volcano of Marsabit. Check into Ebisa Hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy an immersive cultural interaction within a traditional Boran village (Manyatta), photographing their intricate hairstyles and lifestyle in the golden evening light. Stay: Ebisa Hotel

2

Marsabit to Ngurunit (Footsteps of the Ndoto Mountains)

Descend from misty Marsabit into the sun-baked desert plains toward Ngurunit, a remote village nestled at the base of the jagged Ndoto Mountains. Check into the rustic Catholic Guesthouse for lunch. Spend the afternoon walking seasonal stream beds (luggas) to photograph Samburu and Rendille herders watering their livestock against the soaring mountain backdrop. Stay: Catholic Guesthouse (Ngurunit)

3

Ngurunit to Loiyangalani (The Jade Sea)

Capture a desert sunrise before driving through rugged lava fields toward Lake Turkana, the world’s largest permanent desert lake. Stop briefly at a hidden oasis before arriving at Palm Shade Resort by midday. In the afternoon, focus your lenses on a traditional Turkana village, documenting the iconic, towering beadwork necklaces worn by the local women. Stay: Palm Shade Resort

4

Loiyangalani Full Day (Gabbra & Elmolo Tribal Encounters)

Dedicate a full day to the rich anthropological landscape of the Jade Sea on this 7-Day Northern Kenya Cultural Photography Expedition. Track north to visit the nomadic, camel-herding Gabbra community in Gas. In the afternoon, board a boat to visit the sacred basalt shrines of the Elmolo tribe—one of Kenya's smallest ethnic groups—and photograph their traditional fishing and fish-curing techniques on the lava rocks. Stay: Palm Shade Resort

5

Loiyangalani to Maralal (Malaso Escarpment Vista)

Depart after breakfast, climbing southward up the Rift Valley floor. Stop at the breathtaking Malaso Escarpment (World's End) for dramatic landscape photography over a vertical chasm. Arrive in Maralal town for lunch and check into Maralal Safari Lodge. In the afternoon, visit a traditional Samburu blacksmith clan to photograph them forging tools and ornaments using ancient metallurgy secrets. Stay: Maralal Safari Lodge

6

Maralal to Lake Baringo (Pokot Cultural Encounter)

Drive south through the scenic highlands into the Rift Valley basin to reach freshwater Lake Baringo. Check into Royal Doves Garden Resort for lunch. Spend your afternoon visiting a traditional Pokot village, photographing their intricate brass ornaments, elaborate beaded capes, and learning about their deeply preserved pastoralist heritage. Stay: Royal Doves Garden Resort

7

Lake Baringo to Nairobi (Ilchamus Island Boat Safari)

Kick off the final day with a morning boat safari to visit the Ilchamus (Njemps) people on Baringo's islands. Photograph fishermen on traditional ambatch boats alongside wild crocodiles, hippos, and diving fish eagles. Cruise back for lunch before boarding your 4x4 for the return drive to Nairobi, arriving in the late evening for your final drop-off. Meals: Breakfast & Lunch Only
